Affordable
We purchased a home in August 2024 that needed several major improvements like a new roof, an HVAC system and all new appliances leaving little room in our budget for all the cosmetic changes we want to make. The 2 full bathrooms are both dated and will eventually require full renovation. But for now, I simply wanted not to hate the bathrooms every time I walk in there. Since I’m not a fan of baby blue or blue gray, I started off by painting the walls a Sherwin Williams “Pure White.” Erik helped with the ceiling especially around the skylight. The glass shower doors have horizontal blue lines that are a huge eye sore. I made them disappear by installing a black tension shower rod adorned with an ivory linen shower curtain and black hooks. I painted the bathroom door “Accessible Beige” and replaced the door knob with a black one. I also cleaned up the wood vanity and swapped out the knobs for simple black ones. The most significant change was the baby blue laminate countertop. I found a product called Retique It that could refinish surfaces to look like wood. After a simple 4 step process, the countertop now has a textured kind of finish that resembles white oak wood. It was a fairly simple DIY project and it took me about 3 days to complete it. I also re-caulked around the sink and the vanity to make sure they were water tight. The entire bathroom makeover cost under $250.00 (minus the paint since we already had that on hand) and we’re no longer embarrassed when guests use it. I can’t wait to see how our second bathroom comes out since we have similar plans to put some “lipstick on that pig” as well.
